In the brochure it says, “Becoming a national is a personal choice and this isn’t an offer to sell you anything. You have to do the research and learn on your own.”
But I thought I already was a national, because we have two statuses, because above this it says, “Prior to the Civil war, there was only one status, a citizen. After the passage of the 13th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, there were 2 statuses: • U.S. Citizen • National.
IOW, I thought I was just removing myself from ‘U.S. Citizenship’, not ‘becoming’ a national.
Can someone please clarify?

Yes you're right.
I think it is trying to say: "becoming only a national."
Or: "becoming a national, as opposed to being both a national and a US citizen."
It seems to be a kind of shorthand.

There are two statuses and throughout your life you have unknowingly agreed to be a U.S. citizen. You are now declaring that you are a national and not a u.s. citizen.

Thank you Admin. That makes sense. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't reading anything into it.
